The Flunk Cancer Foundation was created by the family and friends of Shannon McHone, a teacher in Wilmington, North Carolina, and a 2007 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

Two years after earining her degree in Elementary Education, Shannon was diagnosed with brain cancer, and after a valiant, nine year battle, she passed away in April 2019.

Flunk Cancer's purpose is to address, educate and provide aid and relief to teachers and school administrators, their families and caregivers suffering from newly diagnosed cancer and/or ongoing treatment.

The Flunk Cancer mission is "Just Living", which refelcts the desire to allow teachers and their families affected by cancer to "Just Live" their lives. This is accomplished by providing assistance and support to teachers with cancer and their families and help guide them through the difficult avenues of cancer diagnosis, treatment and care.
